Our Why
DeShawn Marcel Powell was shot and killed July 22, 2021, at the age of 20, while trying to help
his female co-worker who was being assaulted in the parking lot of the restaurant where he
worked.
This foundation exists in support of the effort to eliminate gun violence in our communities and
provide resources for survivors. As we fight the good fight to raise awareness of this epidemic
of gun violence, we continue DeShawn’s legacy of love and standing up for what is right even if
it means standing alone.
Our Mission
We understand that the task of ending gun violence is not an easy one. The Deshawn Powell Foundation is working tirelessly to reach as many people as possible with our message. We aim to educate the public about the root causes of gun violence, support those who have been affected by it, and advocate for policy change. Our team is made up of passionate and dedicated individuals who share a common goal: to make our communities safer.
